2024 Maui Marathon: Lahaina Town Memorial Run
Following the devastating fires in Lahaina and Kula, the Maui Marathon will take a new form in 2024. To honor those impacted by the August 8th wildfires, the race will be known as the Lahaina Town Memorial Run.
The traditional course stretching from Puʻunēnē to Kāʻanapali will be replaced with a rerouted event focused on shorter distances. The full marathon (26.2 miles) is canceled for 2024. However, runners and walkers can still participate in the half marathon, 10k, and 5k options.
The new start and finish line will be located at the Maui Tropical Plantation in Waikapū. The half-marathon route will begin at the Sugar Mill in Puʻunēnē, concluding at the plantation. The 10k and 5k races will be entirely contained within the farm property.
This year's revamped event offers a chance to celebrate community spirit and resilience while honoring those affected by the fires.
A Scenic Route with a Purpose
Set against the stunning landscape of Lahaina Town, the marathon promises a unique running adventure that merges awe-inspiring views with a sense of honor. Runners will traverse historic landmarks and scenic beauty, turning each mile into a lasting memory and every step into a tribute to the enduring spirit of the community. The meticulously designed course ensures that participants not only encounter physical challenges but also forge profound connections with the location's significance and the event's theme.
Half Marathon: A Path of Unity
The Maui Half Marathon is scheduled to begin at 5:30 am, and sets its starting line at the Sugar Mill, inviting participants to a morning filled with purpose and endurance. Participants are advised to arrive at the race venue at least 30 minutes before their designated start time to ensure a smooth commencement of their journey. For those unable to reach the start area by the race's onset, they may still participate; however, their official start time will be recorded as 5:30 am.
This event is not just a test of physical stamina but also an opportunity for runners to immerse themselves in the rich history and breathtaking landscapes of Lahaina Town. The half marathon route has been carefully designed to pass through significant landmarks, allowing runners to experience a sense of connection with the town's heritage. By participating, individuals contribute to a larger narrative of remembrance and support, embodying a shared commitment to the well-being of the Lahaina Community.

10K Run: A Community in Motion
The 10K run, a pivotal event starting at 5:45 am, offers a vibrant platform for participants of all fitness levels to show their support for a cherished community cause. Beginning at the Maui Tropical Plantation, this race promises not only a physical challenge but also a scenic journey through one of the island's most stunning landscapes. Arriving an hour early is advised, allowing ample time for preparation and ensuring timely access to the starting area.
Designed with inclusivity in mind, this race welcomes runners of diverse backgrounds, from seasoned athletes to newcomers, united by a shared objective. The choice of wearing red symbolizes solidarity with the Lahaina Community, transforming individual contributions into a collective display of support and strength. By participating in this 10K run, individuals embody unity and backing within their community—a testament to joint efforts towards a common goal.
For directions to the Maui Tropical Plantation, use Google Maps for detailed navigation information. This tool aids in locating both start and finish lines efficiently on race day. Participants are encouraged to utilize Google Maps for precise navigation to the venue, ensuring a timely and stress-free arrival.
This event champions the idea that every stride forward contributes to a larger cause, emphasizing the significance of collective participation over individual competition. It offers an opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to come together in a shared endeavor, fostering a sense of belonging and community solidarity. As participants don the color red, they create a striking visual symbol of resilience and unity, embodying the strength and spirit of the community at every step.
Attendees are advised to arrive at the race venue 30 minutes before their race begins, allowing sufficient time for warming up, familiarizing themselves with the surroundings, and soaking in the pre-race atmosphere. This preparatory period is crucial for ensuring that participants are physically and mentally ready to embark on the 5K journey. If someone is not present at the starting area when the race officially starts, they are still permitted to join the race, with the understanding that their official start time will be recorded as 5:55 am.
The 5K run exemplifies the power of collective action and the importance of every individual's contribution, no matter how small it may seem. Through this event, participants not only advocate for a cause but also engage in a transformative experience that highlights the importance of community support and personal commitment.
