All About Maui
When you choose a vacation destination, there are plenty of things to take into account, such as the cost of your vacation accommodations and airfare, what kind of climate suits you, and what kinds of experiences you would like to have. The latter is the most fun, so we'd like to tell you a little bit about what makes Maui special. Everyone knows our island is a famous vacation destination for its beauty, romantic setting, and tropical climate. Here are some interesting features about Maui that you may not be so familiar with!
Windsurfing - Okay so you are probably familiar with windsurfing, but did you know that Maui is widely considered to be the windsurfing capital of the world? The north shore beaches are perfect for harnessing the trade winds and zipping across the water until you feel like you are flying!
Whalewatching - Some of our most enthusiastic visitors are 45 feet long! Between the months of December and May, our waters are filled with humpback whales, and there are numerous lookout spots and ocean charters where you can get a good look at these behemoth mammals. Humpbacks are the most acrobatic of the baleen whales, so be prepared for breaching, fin-slapping, tail-slapping, lob-tailing and plenty of other dynamic displays!
Haleakala Crater - This incredible geological feature is only slightly smaller than the island of Manhattan. It is full of colorful orange and red cinder cones, and at the summit is a state of the art observatory, which was placed there to take advantage of excellent clarity, dryness and lack of light pollution in the air and sky above its 10,023 foot elevation.
Red Sand Beaches - On Maui, you will find a couple of red sand beaches. There are only a handful of red sand beaches in the world, so if you want to experience a gem of geological rarity, don't skip these.
Jaws - On Maui's North Shore, you'll find Jaws, or Pe'ahi, one of the most famous big wave locations of the world. Waves can exceed 60 feet in height, especially between the months of December and March.
Zip-line - Maui has several zip-line companies, but what few people know is that in the United States, this activity first attained its significant popularity as a recreational activity on Maui.
